Overall objective:
To promote judicial reform and minority rights in Georgia. The Programme will advise the Georgian government, the national authorities, justice sector and civil society on European norms and standards, in particular those norms that are relevant and envisaged in the reforms adopted by the Georgian government.

Specific objectives:

  • To assist the Georgian authorities in improving the capacity of the institutions involved in the justice system and in implementing the latest reforms adopted in the field of the judiciary in line with European standards;
  • To assist the Georgian authorities to carry out reforms in the penitentiary and probation system in line with the Council of Europe standards;
  • To develop and strengthen capacity of the Public Defender’s Office to achieve its objectives and fulfil its role in light of European Human Rights standards;
  • To further the sustainable and credible governance on national minorities in Georgia in accordance with the Council of Europe Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.
