8th Conference of Ministers responsible for Youth
10-11 October 2008, Kyiv, Ukraine

The conference, entitled ''The future of the Council of Europe youth policy: Agenda 2020'', focused on challenges that young people across Europe are facing today. These include:

- Promoting equal opportunities for girls and boys, young women and young men;
- Supporting young people's access to social rights;
- Empowering young people to promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue and it religious dimension;
- Promoting intergenerational dialogue and solidarity;

The event brought together ministers responsible for youth from the 49 signatory countries of the European Cultural Convention as well as representatives of the European Youth Forum and international non-governmental youth organisations as well as representatives of international organisations and institutions, professional networks, and parliamentarians.

A final declaration outlining the priorities in the youth sector for the next decade - the so called ''Agenda 2020'' - was adopted on 11 October.
