10th anniversary of the European Local Democracy Week (ELDW)  [29/03/2017]

In the context of its 32nd Session, the Congress held an exchange of views on European Local Democracy Week (ELDW). The Week celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2017 and the theme is: �Citizen participation, consultation and commitment for a thriving local democracy� � Since it was first launched in 2007, ELDW has helped to bring citizens and local elected representatives closer. �The ELDW has become a truly pan-European event that presents an opportunity to promote participatory democracy at the closest level to citizens�, stated Gaye Doganoglu (Turkey, EPP/CCE), Vice-President of the Congress and ELDW Spokesperson. She praised the ELDW partner cities� commitment and in particular the cities of Katowice (Poland) and Stockton on Tees (United Kingdom,) which were at the session to share their experience. Katarzyna Borkowska, Director of the Administration Department of the City of Katowice, ELDW partner since 2009, said that the citizens of Katowice took a keen interest in the Week and a growing number of people took part from year to year.

10e anniversaire de la Semaine europ�enne de la d�mocratie locale (SEDL)  [29/03/2017]

Dans le cadre de sa 32e Session, le Congr�s a tenu un �change de vues sur la Semaine europ�enne de la d�mocratie locale (SEDL). L�ann�e 2017 � dont le th�me est : � Participation, consultation et engagement des citoyens : pour que vive la d�mocratie locale � � marque les 10 ans de la SEDL qui, depuis son lancement en 2007, contribue � rapprocher citoyens et �lus territoriaux. � La SEDL est devenue un v�ritable �v�nement pan-europ�en qui donne l�opportunit� de promouvoir la d�mocratie participative au niveau le plus proche des citoyens �, a d�clar� Gaye Doganoglu (Turquie, PPE/CCE), Vice-pr�sidente du Congr�s et porte-parole de la SEDL. Elle a salu� les villes partenaires de la Semaine pour leur engagement, et tout particuli�rement les villes de Katowice (Pologne) et Stockton on Tees (Royaume-Uni) venues partager leur exp�rience. Katarzyna Borkowska, Directrice Du D�partement d�Administration de la ville de Katowice, partenaire de la Semaine depuis 2009, a soulign� l�engouement des citoyens de Katowice qui sont, chaque ann�e, de plus en plus nombreux � y participer.
