Declaration of the Bureau of the Congress on the Lampedusa tragedy  [31/10/2013]

The Bureau of the Congress adopted on 31 October 2013 a declaration on “Emergency in the Mediterranean: the tragedy of Lampedusa” following a motion submitted by twenty-one Congress members belonging to the Italian, French, Romanian, Turkish, United Kingdom, San Marino, Netherlands and Portuguese delegations. It asks governments to support a change in the legislation relating to immigration and the right of asylum in order to promote the lawful entry, safety, reception and integration of migrants. “This question is a matter of real concern to Italy, but also to the other countries in the region such as the Republic of Malta, and more generally to the 47 Council of Europe member states”, stressed Congress President Herwig van Staa. “Italian local authorities will not be alone in managing the immigration emergency in the Mediterranean, in particular on Lampedusa”, said Emilio Verrengia (Italy, EPP/CCE), Vice-President of the Congress.

Une déclaration du Bureau du Congrès sur la tragédie de Lampedusa  [31/10/2013]

Le Bureau du Congrès a adopté une déclaration sur « Urgence Méditerranée : la tragédie de Lampedusa » le 31 octobre 2013, suite à une proposition introduite par vingt-et-un membres du Congrès appartenant aux délégations de l’Italie, la France, la Roumanie, la Turquie, le Royaume-Uni, Saint-Marin, des Pays-Bas et du Portugal. Elle demande aux gouvernements d’appuyer un changement de la règlementation en matière d’immigration et de droit d’asile, favorisant l’entrée régulière, la sécurité, l’accueil et l’intégration des migrants. « Cette question est un véritable sujet de préoccupation pour l’Italie, mais également pour les autres pays de la région comme la République de Malte, et plus généralement pour les 47 pays membres du Conseil de l’Europe » a souligné le Président du Congrès Herwig van Staa. « Les autorités locales italiennes ne resteront pas seules à gérer l’urgence de l’immigration en Méditerranée, en particulier à Lampedusa », a déclaré Emilio Verrengia (Italie, PPE/CCE), vice-président du Congrès.
