Mercedes Bresso: ''We must strengthen the complemetarity of our action, in the interest of territorial authorities in Europe'

Addressing the 19th session of the Congress on 27 October 2010, Mercedes Bresso, President of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union, stressed the need to deepen the complementarity between the activities of the two institutions which signed a cooperation agreement in 2005, revised in 2009. President Bresso emphasised the variety of forms this partnership takes, citing some of successful common initiatives, in particular the election observation missions in Georgia and Ukraine, the Messina conference on fighting corruption and the opinions on the Eastern Partnership. She also underlined the importance of the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty for territorial communities.

Dans son discours prononcé le 27 octobre 2010 lors de la 19e session du Congrès, la Présidente du Comité des régions de l’UE, Mercedes Bresso, a insisté sur la nécessité d’approfondir la complémentarité du travail des deux institutions qui ont signé un accord de coopération en 2005, révisé en 2009. La Présidente Bresso a attiré l’attention sur le caractère varié de ce partenariat en citant plusieurs initiatives communes réussies, en particulier les missions d’observation des élections en Géorgie et en Ukraine, la conférence de Messine sur la lutte contre la corruption et la préparation des avis sur le Partenariat oriental. Elle a en outre souligné l’importance de l’entrée en vigueur du Traité de Lisbonne pour les collectivités territoriales.
