Keith Whitmore elected President of the Congress  [26/10/2010]

At the opening of the 19th Session, on 26 October 2010, Keith Whitmore (United Kingdom, ILDG), President of the Congress’ Institutional Committee and of its Independent and Liberal Democrat Group (ILDG), was elected President of the Congress. In the first round of the election, he obtained 157 votes (an absolute majority), and Ian Micallef (Malta, EPP/CD) 66 votes out of the 230 votes cast. ''It is a great pride for me to be able to steer a new, reformed Congress for the next two years, and to strengthen its role as the guardian of local and regional democracy in Europe,'' he said. In separate votes, the Chamber of Local Authorities and the Chamber of Regions elected Jean-Claude FRECON (France, SOC) and Herwig VAN STAA (Austria, EPP/CD) as their respective Presidents, as well as their Vice-Presidents.  (More...)

Keith Whitmore (Royaume-Uni, GILD), Président de la Commission institutionnelle du Congrès et de son Groupe indépendant et libéral démocratique (GILD), a été élu Président du Congrès à l’ouverture de la 19e session, le 26 octobre 2010. Au premier tour du scrutin, il a obtenu 157 votes (majorité absolue), contre 66 voix pour Ian Micallef (Malte, PPE/DC) sur 230 votes exprimés. ''Je suis très fier de pouvoir diriger un nouveau Congrès, réformé, pendant les deux prochaines années et de pouvoir renforcer son rôle de garant de la démocratie régionale en Europe'', a-t-il déclaré. Par vote séparé, la Chambre des pouvoirs locaux et la Chambre des régions ont respectivement élu Jean-Claude FRECON (France, SOC) et Herwig VAN STAA (Autriche, PPE/DC) en tant que présidents, ainsi que leurs Vice-présidents.  (More...)
