Conference “Ombudswork for children”

Athens, 29-30 September 2006

The Commissioner for Human Rights held a conference entitled “Ombudswork for children” in Athens on 29-30 September, bringing together over a hundred participants, including national and regional ombudsmen, the European Ombudsman, Council of Europe and UN experts as well as NGO representatives.

Organised jointly with Vladimir Lukin, the Russian Federal Ombudsman for Human Rights, and George Kaminis, the Greek Ombudsman, the conference analysed how ombudsmen around Europe can protect children’s rights. The work started with a discussion of the different models of child-themed ombudsman institutions and the advantages that the different models offer.
