|1202nd meeting of the Ministers' Deputies (10-11 June 2014)|
[11/06/2014] At their 1202nd meeting, the Ministers' Deputies held a thematic debate on "The role and functioning of NGOs in the Council of Europe". Participants in the debate included Mr Jean-Marie Heydt, President of the Conference of INGOs, Ms Annelise Oeschger, Chair of the Human Rights Committee (Conference of INGOs) and Mr Jeroen Klok, Special Assistant to the Chief of the Americas, Europe and Central Asia Branch at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The Deputies adopted a Resolution on the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities by Georgia.
They examined a request from Kosovo* for membership of the Enlarged Agreement establishing the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission). Noting that Kosovo's* membership of the Venice Commission is without prejudice to the positions of individual Council of Europe member States on the status of Kosovo*, the Deputies agreed to the request and invited Kosovo* to appoint a member to sit on the Commission.
The Deputies also held an exchange of views with Ms Liesbeth Lijnzaad, Chair of the Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law (CAHDI).
The agenda of the meeting and the decisions adopted are available in the meeting file.
* All reference to Kosovo, whether the territory, institutions or population, in this text shall be understood in full compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and without prejudice to the status of Kosovo.
