Amicale Education letter - Strasbourg European School - Full after only two years?
On 27 July 2011 Amicale Education has sent a letter to all involved persons alerting them to the fact that for the second year in a row, the European schoool Strasbourg is full and that clearly, authorities have underestimated the demand.
See letter to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, The French Ambassador to the Council of Europe (English) with copies to the Permanent Representatives, Mme Dubourg-Lavroff, Directrice de la Direction des relations européennes et internationales et de la coopération, Ministère de l’Education nationale and the Mayor of Strasbourg, amongst others.
See below for letters sent last year and subsequent correspondence. Also, report of meeting held 16 June 2011. A further meeting will be held in September to discuss next steps.
Special meeting to discuss the situation regarding admissions 2011 at the European school Strasbourg - Thursday 16th June 2011 at 4:45 at the Amicale room A1.04V, Agora building. Read Report
Last year over 350 families were refused places at the European school Strasbourg, of whom over 60 were Permanent Representatives and Council of Europe staff's children. Amicale Education wrote to the Secretary General, the Mayor of Strasbourg, the Inspection Academique amongst others, to protest the school already being full after two years. See below for last years correspondence.
This year, again many families have been refused. Amicale Education is holding a meeting to see what steps can be taken. Please let us know if you plan to attend and e-mail us your situation so that we can get a better overall picture. Naturally, information will be kept in the strictest confidence.
Amicale Education letter - Strasbourg European School - Full after only two years?
On 12 July 2010 Amicale Education has sent a letter to all involved persons to ask them to take action to allow the school a genuine opportunity to grow. The fact is that over 350 children did not get a place at the European school for next year and won’t be able to get the education the Council of Europe has fought so hard to bring to Strasbourg. How is it possible that the new school already lacks the resources it needs after only two years? Letter to the SG. Letter to Mayor. Reply from the Direction des relations européennes et internationales et de la coopération. Amicale reply to Mme Sonia Dubourg-Lavroff.

Sir Ken Robinson - Bring on the learning Revolution - Reforming education is rightly seen as one of the biggest challenges of our times. In my view, reform is not enough: the real challenge is to transform education from a 19th century industrial model into a 21st century process based on different principles.
http://sirkenrobinson.com/skr/bring-on-the-learning-revolution Do schools kill creativity - Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

The Observer - Sunday 5 September 2010 - British lecturer Peter Gumbel attacks French education culture
A British academic has provoked a storm by claiming that the French education system robs its pupils of their self-esteem
