Schatzkammer
– Kahlenberg – Klosterneuburg Day Tour, 20 September 2012 Pick
up at the Hilton hotels at 9.00 Return to the hotels at 16.30
This tour takes you to the Viennese Treasury, the famous “Schatzkammer”.
The Secular Treasury offers you a unique panorama covering over a millennium
of European history. It is the home of the most important collection of
medieval royal objects: the insignia and jewels of the Holy Roman Empire,
including the Imperial Crown and the Holy Lance. Your tour continues
via the Höhenstrasse road to the Kahlenberg. From this vantage point you
have a marvellous view over the whole city and its surroundings. After lunch
the excursion then leads to Klosterneuburg, the first Babenberger residence
in the Viennese area. The most impressive place of interest in the vicinity
is the Augustinian Monastery, which was founded even before 1108. The
Monastery’s focal point is the renowned Verdun Altar, dated 1181, a unique
work of art that is made of enamel. From Klosterneuburg you then
return to Vienna.
