The struggle for human rights resembles the story of Sisyphus, except that there is hope, says Judge Costa [17/03/2004]

Judge Jean-Paul Costa, Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights, speaking at the fifth Council of Europe-City of Strasbourg Debate, said that the effort to assert human rights could be compared with the efforts of Sisyphus to push his rock to the top of the hill, for it was a never-ending task, a job that could never be finished. But he added that in the end, the summit would be reached. Deputy Secretary General Maud de Boer-Buquicchio emphasised that the risks of violation were changing, but that the European Convention on Human Rights was our most effective tool for tracking down human rights violations.   (More...)

''On peut comparer la lutte pour les droits de l’homme au rocher de Sisyphe : elle n’est jamais finie car rien n’est jamais acquis'' a déclaré le juge Jean-Paul COSTA, Vice-Président de la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme, lors de la 5ème édition des Entretiens de Strasbourg.
