Estonia, Lithuania and Slovenia: ten years within the Council of Europe [14/05/2003]
Estonia, Lithuania and Slovenia all joined the Council of Europe on 14 May 1993. On the occasion of this anniversary, Walter Schwimmer, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, said: ''On joining the Council of Europe ten years ago, Estonia, Lithuania and Slovenia committed themselves to striving towards the reinforcement of their democracies in partnership with other European states at the heart of our Organisation, of which there are now 45 members. Their efforts and the progress that they have made are a model of successful democratic transition and all three countries play a commendable active role within the Council of Europe''.

Le 14 mai 1993, l’Estonie, la Lituanie et la Slovénie adhéraient au Conseil de l’Europe. A l’occasion de cet anniversaire, Walter Schwimmer, Secrétaire Général de l’Organisation, a déclaré : ''En adhérant au Conseil de l’Europe voici dix ans, l’Estonie, la Lituanie et la Slovénie se sont engagées à poursuivre leurs efforts pour le renforcement de leur démocratie, en partenariat avec d’autres Etats européens dans le cadre de notre Organisation, qui compte à ce jour 45 membres. Les efforts et les progrès accomplis par ces trois pays, dont le rôle actif au sein du Conseil de l’Europe est remarquable, constituent un modèle de transition démocratique réussie''.
