Walter Schwimmer calls for a stable, open and shared Europe thanks to dialogue [07/10/2002]
''Intercultural dialogue, including the religious dimension, is a key factor in conflict prevention and in post-conflict reconciliation'', according to Council of Europe Secretary General Walter Schwimmer, speaking as a colloquy on intercultural dialogue got under way. Following the tragic events of 11 September 2001, a decision had been taken to support a stable, open and shared Europe, built up through dialogue, rather than the Europe often perceived as a fortress, he said.

''Le dialogue interculturel, y compris sa dimension religieuse, est un facteur-clé de la prévention des conflits et de la réconciliation post-conflit'', a affirmé le Secrétaire Général du Conseil de l’Europe, à l’ouverture d’un Colloque sur le dialogue interculturel. Après les tragiques événements du 11 septembre 2001, a-t-il ajouté, nous avons décidé de soutenir la construction par le dialogue d’ une Europe stable, ouverte et partagée, plutôt que celle souvent perçue comme une forteresse.
