Teaching history to support peace and reconciliation [26/06/2009]
History teaching can be a tool for promoting peace and reconciliation in conflict and post-conflict areas, as well as tolerance and understanding. At the end of the debate on the subject, the parliamentarians stressed that a multiple-perspective approach, rather than a single interpretation of events, would encourage pupils to respect diversity and cultural differences.

L’enseignement de l’histoire peut être un instrument pour promouvoir la paix et la réconciliation dans les zones de conflit et de post-conflit ainsi que la tolérance et la compréhension. Au terme d’un débat sur la question, les parlementaires ont souligné qu’une approche aux perspectives multiples, au lieu d’une interprétation unique, encouragera les élèves à respecter la diversité et la différence culturelle.
