Enhancing the Right to Data Protection in Eastern Partnership Countries

On 14-15 December 2016, the Council of Europe (CoE) and European Union in partnership with the Personal Data Protection Inspector of Georgia will hold an international conference on "Enhancing the Right to Data Protection in Eastern Partnership Countries”. The event is organized within the framework of the joint CoE/EU Program “Enhance the right to data protection” which aims at fostering the implementation of national reforms in order to meet the standards of the European Union and the Council of Europe as well as enhancing the right to data protection by working in close cooperation with several countries.

The event brings together for the first time representatives of Eastern Partnership countries to discuss the latest advances in international and European standards on data protection. The conference will highlight the role of data protection authorities with regard to the protection of persons, identifying the needs of each delegation from Eastern Partnership countries and the 2017 priorities. Moreover, the conference will encourage cohesion within the international network, ensuring the effective implementation of the planned actions.

The international conference is organised within the framework of the joint CoE/EU Program “Enhance the right to data protection”. The project was launched in January 2015 and aims to enhance the compliance of data protection legislation, regulations and policy in line with international and European data protection standards, to secure the highest level of protection of individuals, including through the effective oversight of the implementation of the legislation in all Eastern Partnership countries.
