Back Preparatory seminar for young educators on the Roma Genocide

DIKH HE NA BISTER - Roma Genocide Remembrance Initiative

This year the Roma Genocide Remembrance Initiative will aim to bring together around 200 young Roma and non-Roma from all over Europe around August 2nd 2017 in Krakow and Auschwitz in Poland, marking the 73rd anniversary of the “Roma Holocaust Memorial Day”.  The initiative aims at raising awareness among young Europeans, civil society and decision-makers about the Roma Genocide, as well as about the mechanisms of antigypsyism in a challenging context of rising racism, hate speech and extremism in Europe.

As part of the preparations for the main educational and commemoration event to be held in Poland, a seminar for facilitators, national group leaders and partners of the initiative, will be held during 10-14 April in Heidelberg, Germany.

The main aim of the seminar is to develop the educational programme of the event planned to take place in Poland. The Roma Genocide Remembrance Initiative is organisers of the initiative are TernYpe – International Roma Youth Network, the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma and other partners.

The event is supported by the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Roma Issues and the Youth Department of the Council of Europe, within the framework of the Roma Youth Action Plan project.
