On 3-7 July 2017 the European Union/Council of Europe Action “Enhancing the protection of human rights of prisoners in Albania” organized in Tirana four training seminars on medical ethics and medical screening for representatives from the General Directorate of Prison Administration and medical staff from 15 penitentiary institutions in Albania.
The training focused on introducing Council of Europe and Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) standards regarding medical ethics and medical screening, including screening of mental health problems in prison.
Participants included 37 doctors and nurses. They benefited from exchanges of professional experience and good practices from each other and international experts. Participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with the training event and requested further capacity building opportunities in the future on these areas and other topics including mental health and suicide prevention.
The training seminars were organised within the scope of the Action “Enhancing the protection of human rights of prisoners in Albania” co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe as part of the "Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey".
