CPT publishes a report on UK and visits a detention centre for foreigners in Slovenia

In its latest report on the United Kingdom, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) describes the situation in immigration removal centres in England.  The report was issued further to CPT’s 2016 periodic visit to the country.

Recommendations include improving living conditions and the range of activities offered to detainees, ensuring daily outdoor exercise, increasing the presence of a psychiatrist and filling the vacant nursing posts, and providing detention custody officers with training on inter-personal skills on an on-going basis.

In the context of its periodic visit to Slovenia, the CPT delegation visited the Postojna Detention Centre for Foreigners. The delegation examined the situation of foreign nationals deprived of their liberty under aliens legislation and will draft a report for the Slovenian authorities.
