Monitoring places where migrant children are deprived of their liberty: how to conduct an effective visit?

On 28-29 March 2019 in Paris, a training session was organised by the Council of Europe on “Monitoring places where migrant children are deprived of their liberty: how to conduct an effective visit?”

The session targeted to respond to the needs of Ombudspersons and their staff, as well as professionals from other authorities involved in fulfilling the rights of the child in the framework of detention and/or migration. 12 participants from 11 Member states (Albania, Croatia, Georgia, Ireland, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine) attended this fundamental and operational training session, which also included a presentation of the Handbook for frontline professionals How to Convey Child-Friendly Information to Children in Migration.

The training session was held in the framework of the PACE parliamentary campaign to end the migration detention of children and the Children’s rights division of the Council of Europe in partnership with Defence of children International – Belgium, and builds on the methodology and guidebooks proposed for visiting places where children are deprived of liberty.
