Council of Europe event at the 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women
Multiple Discrimination - A Single Response Combating stereotypes and discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity
A Side Event at the 60th Session of the CSW co-organised by the Council of Europe, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Republic of Malta
New York (USA), 16 March 2016
The aim of this Side Event was to explore the experiences of lesbian, bisexual and transgender women and to exchange ideas and examples of promising practices in tackling gender stereotypes and discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity. Building on international human rights standards enshrined in human rights treaties and elaborated by UN treaty bodies, as well as the Council of Europe Recommendation (2010)5 on measures to combat discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s Resolution 2048/2015 on the discrimination of transgender people, the Side Event pooled together national perspectives and experience and international standards with a view to identifying effective policies and practices.
