The workshop “Legal protection of journalists according to international standards, the ECHR and domestic legislation”

Two day event within the scope of the Joint Project “Reinforcing Judicial Expertise on Freedom of Expression and the Media in South-East Europe (JUFREX)” co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, was organised in co-operation with the Macedonian Institute for Media – Project partner. The event took place in the format of a workshop titled “Legal protection of journalists according to international standards, the ECHR and domestic legislation” and was intended to strengthen the capacity of media actors in the country.

The specific aim of the workshop was focused at building up on media actors’ knowledge as regards their protection before the courts in the context of Freedom of expression related to their journalistic work.

The workshop was held on 20 and 21 April 2017 in Mavrovo gathering participants from media outlets from around the country, the Agency for Audio and Audio-visual Media Services and representatives from the Council of Media Ethics and the Association of Journalists of Macedonia. The discussions were facilitated by a national consultant, Mr Lazar Sandev - attorney at law and an international consultant, Ms Mirjana Lazarova Trajkovska – former judge in the European Court of Human Rights.
