Several Council of Europe co-operation activities are being implemented in “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”. A country-specific EU/CoE Joint Programme on the capacity-building of law enforcement agencies for the appropriate treatment of detained and sentenced persons is being implemented since December 2012, for the purpose of which a programme office was set up in Skopje.

At the regional level, an EU/CoE Joint Programme on Intercultural Mediation for Roma Communities (ROMED), in which "the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia" is involved, is being implemented since 2011 and other regional  EU/CoE Joint Programmes on the Promotion of Human Rights and Minority Protection and on Inclusive Education are currently running. The country is also a beneficiary of the Council of Europe regional project on freedom of expression and freedom of the media (funded by Norway).
