Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland is in Georgia on an official visit on 30 January 2017,  to meet high-level officials and discuss the co-operation of the country with the Council of Europe.

The Secretary General’s agenda includes meetings with the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili; Prime Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili; Foreign Minister, Mikheil Janelidze;  and Chair of the Parliament of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze.

Co-operation between Georgia and the Council of Europe, the implementation of the Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019, and human rights situation in Europe are discussed. In his meeting with the Georgian Foreign Minister, he confirmed the Council of Europe’s support to constitutional, judicial and media law reform in Georgia.
