The North-South Centre organises its follow-up seminar of the Lisbon Forum 2018 in order to enhance interregional and multilevel cooperation to support local youth engagement in peace processes, on the 5 and 6 December in Sweimeh, Jordan.

The Seminar is the follow-up event of the North-South Centre’s Lisbon Forum 2018 on the theme “Youth, Peace and Security: Uplifting youth engagement in peace and democratic processes in the Euro-Mediterranean Region” which called upon international agencies, national governments and local authorities to urgently establish policy dialogue processes with young people on issues of peace and security.

With the participation of the youth related organisations from civil society, the United Nations, OSCE, African Union, Council of Europe and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the two-day seminar will identify the “take-ins” that interregional cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and good practices from different stakeholders could bring in defining a more youth-inclusive global agenda for peace. This process will also highlights the stong mobilizating effect of young people in achieving Council of Europe and other international platforms’ objectives of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

The active involvement of the grassroots organisations, the actors of governance from European and Southern Mediterranean and international experts during the seminar will be the opportunity to foster a greater cooperation by focusing on concrete solutions and increasing the role of youth in today major challenges.

With the support of the joint programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe: South Programme "Ensuring sustainable democratic governance and human rights in the Southern Mediterranean ", this seminar will be a privileged occasion and place for reflection and dialogue.
