The Advisory Committee and the FCNM Secretariat are mourning the sudden death, on 12 May 2017, of Dr Oleksandr Zadorozhniy, the Advisory Committee’s member elected in respect of Ukraine. Oleksandr, a Professor of International Law at the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv, has been a member of the Advisory Committee since 1 June 2016.

In this period, he participated in the monitoring work of the Advisory Committee, including in the demanding role as a national expert in respect of Ukraine. Oleksandr distinguished himself with his excellent understanding of public international law. We knew Oleksandr as a hard-working and interested scholar. He will be sorely missed as an expert and as a good colleague whose friendship was deeply valued by us all. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
