Back Council of Europe and European Union facilitate training on international, regional, and local laws governing privacy and data protection to representatives of law enforcement, health care sector and lawyers in Ukraine

A series of regional 1-day sectorial trainings on the right to the protection of personal data for representatives of law enforcement, healthcare and lawyers aiming at identifying and defining for each concerned sector the implementing tools and concepts of data protection has been organized by the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine in cooperation with the Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner on Human Rights in Chernivtsi on 4th, 5th, 6th of February 2015 and in Lviv on 12th, 13th and 14th of March 2015 respectively for some 350 participants.

The training on implementing data protection legislation in these specific sectors aimed at clarifying key legal provisions on data protection, assistance to sector actors in bringing their internal procedures for the processing of personal data in compliance with the Ukrainian law on personal data protection and international standards.

Additionally, the trainings contributed to disseminating and promoting at national level of the relevant Council of Europe standards and best practices on data protection and provided the participants with the opportunity to discuss the relevant ECtHR case law and national practices concerning the issue of privacy.

In order to raise awareness and improve knowledge of data protection rules in Council of Europe member states, the Handbook on European Data protection Law in Ukrainian was distributed among the participants of the training activities.

These activities are part of the cycle of trainings that will be held in 2015 within the framework of the Council of Europe and European Union Joint Programme “Strengthening Information Society in Ukraine” (UPSIS).

The UPSIS project was launched in 2014 and aims to strengthen the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms through an effective system of protection of individuals with regard to their right to privacy and right to control their personal data.
