About Intercultural cities

Since its launch in 2008 as a pilot initiative involving only 11 cities, the Intercultural Cities (ICC) has developed into an influential coalition of over 100 cities across Europe and overseas which advocates for intercultural integration: an asset-based approach to migrant inclusion policies. In the context of the ICC programme cities work together to develop, test and mainstream innovative approaches to managing diversity as a resource, amplifying its socio-economic benefits and minimising its potential negative effects.

In 2015, based on the positive results achieved by the Intercultural cities programme, the Council of Europe member States have endorsed intercultural integration as an effective response to the challenges of ever growing cultural diversity of European societies.
