Conference of INGOs: Thematic Committees
The Conference of INGOs has established three thematic committees which are responsible its work in the priority fields of
- human rights
- democracy, social cohesion and global challenges
- education and culture
The Committees’ purpose is to facilitate co-ordination between the INGOs in specific interest areas, serve as common interlocutors for all the Council of Europe bodies, and ensure more effective participation in the activities of these bodies. When planning their work, the Committees take into account the Council of Europe’s main concerns and topical issues and the general lines and the programme of activities pursued by the Conference of INGOs.
Each committee is led by a Chair and two Vice-Chairs who were elected in June 2014 for a three year term. The committees meet during the twice-yearly sessions of the Conference. The meetings are open to all INGOs enjoying participatory status. Other NGOs and experts may be invited to the meetings to contribute to the discussion on a given subject.
