World Forum for Democracy 2017: Is Populism a problem?

Is Populism a problem? The 2017 World Forum for Democracy which will be held in Strasbourg from 8-10 November 2017 will focus on the role of political parties and media in the context of rising populism.

The World Forum for Democracy is a platform for political decision-makers and activists to debate solutions to key challenges for democracies worldwide.  The heart of the discussion at the Forum takes place in laboratories (labs) which address specific issues through the critical analysis of tested initiatives. The initiatives will be presented in short speeches of ten minutes and critically assessed by multidisciplinary panels and participants in the labs. The key conclusions and lessons learnt from the labs will be discussed in a summing up session in order to prepare the overall conclusions for the Forum. The Forum participants will vote to choose the winner of the Democracy Innovation award among the presented initiatives.

If your INGO has an initiative which aims at re-building trust in media and in political parties then it is invited to express interest in presenting its example/initiative by answering the attached questionnaire and sending it to forum_democracy@coe.int by 30 April 2017 with a copy to Martichu Rall who represents the Conference of INGOs on the Steering Committee of the World Forum: maritchurall@noos.fr
