The newly launched course on Property Rights was launched on 7 March 2017 in Sarajevo for a group of judges from  Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia. The meeting was organised in cooperation with the Judicial and Prosecutorial Training Centre of the Federation of BiH and the Judicial and Prosecutorial Training Centre of Republika Srpska.

The course has been developed under the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals- HELP in the framework of the project “Reinforcing the capacity of the judiciary to apply European human rights standards at the national level in Bosnia and Herzegovina". It explores in detail the standards set out of the European Court of Human Rights in its case law on Article 1 of Protocol 1 of the ECHR; elaborates on  ‘what’ a possession is and ‘who’ is protected and touches upon the tests applied by the ECtHR when assessing whether a violation took place. A large number of cases referred to in the course concern the countries of the former Yugoslavia and therefore will be of a particular interest to legal professionals from that region.

The course will last two months and will be tutored by Professor Ljiljana Mijovic from the University of Banja Luka and former judge of the ECtHR elected in respect of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
