On 29 May 2017, the EYF visited the Youth Ambassadors Training Course #SolidActivists organised from 27 May to 1 June 2017 by the National Youth Council of Ireland at the Glencree Peace and Reconciliation Centre in Co. Winclow, Ireland.
This pilot activity was developed to train a group of 18 young activists from different areas of the country with the aim of creating a motivated and skilled team to drive the No Hate Speech Movement in Ireland through 2017 and beyond.
The #SolidActivist training programme was built on interactive youth-led workshops exploring hate speech. The participants shared experiences, ideas and input on the No Hate Speech Movement, in order to develop communication skills, visual material and future action plans.
The visit took place during the 3rd and 4th day of this pilot activity, during which the concept and everyday manifestations of hate speech were explored. The role of human rights education to combat hate speech was also discussed. The participants discovered different youth education manuals and worked in groups to develop their own activities that they would implement with their peers after the training.
