AFF Europe 2015
Addressing aerial wildfire suppression in Eastern European countries

The EUR-OPA Secretariat, in cooperation with the Global Fire Monitoring Centre (GFMC), Freiburg, Germany, organised a Conference on Addressing aerial wildfire suppression on 29 and 30 April 2015 in Zadar, Croatia. The conference brought together fire aviation operators and decision makers from Eastern European countries to discuss strengthening of cross-border cooperation in aerial fire suppression. The “International Fire Aviation Guidelines” incorporating the “International Manual of Common Rules for Fire Aviation” was presented as well as the recently launched “International Wildfire Preparedness Mechanism” (IWPM). A Workshop addressing “Aerial Fire Fighting Interoperability” was held at the same time that high-level representatives of national and commercial aerial firefighting operators could identify opportunities to develop bi-lateral or multi-lateral resource sharing agreements for AFF (or for incorporation of specific AFF provisions in wider resource sharing agreements).
