What can be done to stop and prevent plagiarism from occurring in Ukrainian Higher Education? This was one of the topics discussed during an International Seminar that took place on 25 April in Kyiv entitled “Academic integrity in Ukrainian Higher Education: A Review of Policy and Practice” organised by the Education Department of the Council of Europe in co-operation with the International Foundation for Educational Policy Research (president Mr Taras Finikov).
The seminar opened with the address of Mr Volodymyr Kovtunets, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine and had two main sessions: “Academic Integrity and transparency in higher education” and “Plagiarism in higher education: challenges and solutions”.
European experiences of promoting academic integrity and preventing plagiarism were presented by two Council of Europe experts: Dr. Thomas Lancaster, Staffordshire University (UK) and Mr Ansgar Schäfer, University of Konstanz (Germany).
The seminar gathered around 60 participants from higher education institutions of Ukraine, NGOs and international organisations, allowing them to share their experiences, discuss challenges and examples of good practice in promoting integrity in higher education.
