Czech chairmanship supports education for democracy and human rights

At the end of their meeting in Nicosia (Cyprus) the six month chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers passed from Cyprus to the Czech Republic. Foreign Affairs Minister Ioannis Kasoulides took stock of Cyprus’s chairmanship and made the handover to Czech Foreign Minister Lubomír Zaorálek, who presented the priorities for his country’s chairmanship. They include promotion of human rights and democracy through education as an important building block of democracy. A Conference on the State of Citizenship and Human Rights Education in Europe, to be held in Strasbourg in June 2017 under the auspices of the Czech Chairmanship, should result in more intensive dialogue on experience and challenges in education for human rights, democracy and the rule of law in different national education systems.
