The North-South Centre's Lisbon Forum 2017 is tackling on 1 and 2 June the challenges to manage migration flows while preventing the growth of anti-immigrant populist movements, promote inclusive societies that respect cultural diversity and reinforce the dialogue between the North and the South.
The forum will bring together experts and representatives from national governments, parliaments, local and regional authorities and civil society.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Augusto Santos Silva, and Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, will speak at the opening.
Other speakers include the High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, and North-South Prize laureates Lora Pappa (2015), President of the Greek NGO METAdrasi, and Mbarka Brahmi (2017), founder of the Brahmi Centre for Peace and Solidarity.
Funded by the European Union and carried out by the Council of Europe under the South Programme II, the Lisbon Forum brings together every year since 1994 high-level participants from Europe, neighbouring regions and international organisations with the aim of discussing topics closely related to the core Council of Europe priorities.
