Back Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni at General Assembly on the enforcement of criminal judgments in Rome

Deputy Secretary General has been invited by the Italian Ministry of Justice to the General Assembly on the enforcement of criminal judgments in in the Auditorium of Rome Rebibbia detention centre “Raffaele Cinotti”.

In the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the President of the Senate, Pietro Grasso, the Minister of Justice, Andrea Orlando and several other important Italian authorities, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni delivered a speech expressing great satisfaction for the results achieved by the Italian Government in the field of prisons, notably on the final outcome of Torreggiani’s pilot judgment. She has also underlined the relevance of European monitoring mechanisms enforcing human rights’ protection.

The redefinition of punishment within the framework of prisoners’ rights and guarantees was at the core of this final General Assembly: an overall process lasting 12 months consisting of 18 thematic groups with more than 200 professionals representing a wide range of expertise (academics, lawyers, judges, architects, sociologists, doctors, athletes, writers, educators, prison and police officers, psychologists, politicians, artists).
