Back Entry into force of the Istanbul Convention: Deputy Secretary General opens international conference in Rome

Rome ,

“Violence against women is not limited to shady back alleys in the dark of night. Much more often, it is inflicted at home by someone women know. Someone women trust”, declared Gabriella Battaini Dragoni at the opening of the international conference “Safe from Fear, Safe from Violence: Celebrating the entry into force of the Istanbul Convention”, held at the Italian Chamber of Deputies. The event, organized in partnership with the Chamber of Deputies and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, included all actors involved in the implementation and execution of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence CETS n° 210, known as Istanbul Convention.

The President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Laura Boldrini, together with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Anne Brasseur and the Italian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Benedetto Della Vedova (in the photo with Deputy Secretary General, Gabriella Battaini Dragoni),  addressed the audience at the opening plenary session. A Joint Declaration by Ministers from States’ Parties to the Istanbul Convention has been delivered in different languages to further highlight the pan-European nature of this treaty.
