Back Deputy Secretary General opens Stakeholders’ Conference on Transitional Justice and Human Rights

“Transitional justice in the former Yugoslavia is the right to deal with the past. It is about implementing the necessary measures to redress the legacies of massive human rights abuses”, highlighted Gabriella Battaini Dragoni  while opening the Stakeholders’ Conference on Transitional Justice and Human Rights in San Servolo (Venice).

The Deputy Secretary General underlined how during the conflicts in the Balkans more than 130,000 people were killed and almost 4 million others were displaced  throughout the 1990s. Transitional justice in the region was based on four pillars: criminal prosecution, reparations of victims; institutional reforms and guarantees of non-recurrence.
