Back Peace Run in Strasbourg

Strasbourg ,

Deputy Secretary General, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, welcomed the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run at 10 am on 7 May 2014, as it made its way through Strasbourg on a 25 000 km biannual European tour of 47 countries. The Peace Run is a charity torch relay which strives to promote international friendship and goodwill, as well as peace and mutual understanding between people and cultures.

Many prominent figures have supported this unique event by carrying the Torch of Peace including: heads of state, such as Mikhail Gorbachev and Nelson Mandela, Olympic athletes such as Carl Lewis, MEPs and EU Commissioners, Nobel Prize winners, spiritual leaders including Mother Teresa and the Dalaï Lama, and more recently, on 11 February last year, Mr Herman Van Rompuy, President of the EU Council. Rompuy, who sponsors the Peace Run, has sent out a message of peace to all mayors based in the relay's host towns and cities.

The Peace Run reached Strasbourg from Basel, before going on to Sarrebrück in Germany and then Luxembourg.
