Data protection in the cyberspace

“Human Rights and Rule of Law in Cyberspace: threats and safeguards" theme of the discussions held during the Octopus 2016 Conference (Strasbourg, 16-18 November). Jean-Philippe Walter, Vice-Chair of the Convention of Committee 108, stressed in his intervention the importance of ensuring the right to the protection of personal data in the fight against cybercrime. Combating cybercrime and searching for electronic evidence in criminal investigations involves access to personal data and exchange of this data: how can this be done without infringing the right to data protection? The Octopus Conference marks the 15th anniversary of the Budapest Convention, which has 50 State Parties.
