The Council of Europe’s Children’s Rights Division participated in a conference organised by the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Riga on 22-23 March on the subject of migrants in an irregular situation whose return or removal has been postponed.

This conference brought together government representatives and experts from across the OSCE region to promote the exchange of good practices in line with relevant OSCE commitment, international legal standards and national legislation relevant to the postponement of irregular migrants’ removal or voluntary return from a territory.

The Children’s Rights Division presented on the theme ‘Guarantees for vulnerable persons’, covering legal provisions and good practices applicable to cases of vulnerable groups through the entire return process. The session focused particularly on unaccompanied children and those children who will soon reach the age of majority, and their access to education, healthcare, and welfare systems.
