At its meetings, the CAHDI examines four major themes:
- Immunities of States and international organisations: the CAHDI monitors member and observer States practice in this field, in particular by following up the relevant case-law.
- International criminal justice: this theme covers numerous aspects examined by the CAHDI, in particular the peaceful settlement of disputes or the cases before the European Court of Human Rights involving issues of public international law.
- Reservations to international treaties, in its role of European Observatory of Reservations to International Treaties.
- National implementation measures of United Nations sanctions, by monitoring State practice and the cases submitted to national tribunals.
