Committee of the Parties elects GRETA members

At its 19th meeting (4 November 2016), the Committee of the Parties to the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings held elections for 13 members of the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA). Seven of the current GRETA members were re-elected for a second term, and six members were elected for the first time. In order to ensure that one half of the membership of GRETA is renewed every two years, the Committee of the Parties exceptionally chose, by the drawing of lots, five members whose mandates will expire at the end of two years (i.e. on 31 December 2018). The mandates of the other eight members will run until 31 December 2020.

The new composition of GRETA is as follows:

  • Ms Alina BRAŞOVEANU (Moldovan) – (second term of office until 31 December 2018)
  • Mr Rudolf CHRISTOFFERSEN (Norwegian) – (first term of office until 31 December 2020)
  • Mr Davor DERENČINOVIĆ (Croatian) – (first term of office until 31 December 2020)*
  • Ms Helga GAYER (German) – (first term of office until 31 December 2020)
  • Mr Frédéric KURZ (Belgian) – (second term of office until 31 December 2020)
  • Mr Ola Hermann LAURELL (Swedish) – (first term of office until 31 December 2020)
  • Ms Kateryna LEVCHENKO (Ukrainian) – (second term of office until 31 December 2018)
  • Ms Nathalie MARTIN (French) – (first term of office until 31 December 2018)
  • Ms Siobhán MULLALLY (Irish) – (second term of office until 31 December 2018)
  • Mr Ryszard PIOTROWICZ (British) – (second term of office until 31 December 2020)
  • Mr Helmut SAX (Austrian) – (elected in 2014 for a second term until the end of 2018)
  • Mr Mihai ŞERBAN (Romanian) – (second term of office until 31 December 2020)
  • Ms Rita THEODOROU SUPERMAN (Cypriot) – (second term of office until 31 December 2018)
  • Mr Jan van DIJK (Dutch) – (elected in 2014 for a second term until the end of 2018)
  • Ms Dorothea WINKLER (Swiss) – (first term of office until 31 December 2020).

At the same meeting, the Committee adopted recommendations concerning Montenegro, Romania and the United Kingdom, based on GRETA’s second evaluation reports of these Parties.

The Committee also considered reports from the governments of Azerbaijan, Sweden and “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” concerning the implementation of its recommendations issued to these Parties in 2014.

 

*Note: Mr DERENČINOVIĆ was a member of GRETA from 2008 to 2012.
