International Workshop and Working Group Meetings on Legislative Amendments to Mediation Law and Regulation in Turkey

The International Workshop and Working Group Meetings on Amendments to Turkish Mediation Legislation was organised on 11-13 May 2016 in Ankara under the Project on Developing Mediation Practices in Civil Disputes in Turkey.  All actors of mediation including the Ministry of Justice, the Court of Cassation, the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors, mediators, lawyers, judges, court clerks, academics as well as trade unions and NGOs were present in the workshop and supported by the CEPEJ experts and national experts to take stock of the mediation practices and to develop proposals and recommendations concerning the amendments envisaged in the Turkish mediation legislation. To achieve this, participants were divided into three working groups under three thematic subjects (labour law, family law and effective mediation services) during which they exchanged their knowledge and information as well as good practices both in Turkey and in Europe.

The workshop and working group meetings served as a unique platform which eventually allowed all stakeholders to analyse the existing legislation and elaborate potential amendments in light of current practices both in Turkey and Europe. A single report including all proposals developed on labour law, family law and effective mediation services will duly be drafted by the experts and disseminated amongst relevant stakeholders accordingly.
