Works of art and donations
The Council of Europe houses within its various buildings a fine collection of works of art. Donations from member states, which include both old and modern items, they reflect the European cultural identity.
Night of Museums
During the Council of Europe’s first “Night of Museums” on 16 May 2009, the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg was turned into a vast museum to display the Council’s rich and varied collection of art and official gifts. A special itinerary, positioning and lighting were designed to help visitors discover the treasures placed in and around the building.
