Romania and the Council of Europe Accession Romania became the 32nd member State of the Council of Europe on 7 October 1993.

Committee of Ministers

Parliamentary Assembly
Romania is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 10 representatives and 10 substitutes, including:
- György FRUNDA (EPP/CD), head of the delegation and the first Vice-Chairperson of the Monitoring Committee.
- Cezar Florin PREDA (EPP/CD), third Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Environment, Agriculture and Local and Regional Affairs.

Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
Romania is represented in Congress by a delegation of 10 representatives and 10 substitutes, including:
- Ludmila SFIRLOAGA (SOC), Prahova county, head of the delegation, Vice-President of the Congress and was elected President of the Chamber of Regions on 27 May 2008.

Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Romania is € 1 988 314.40 (i.e 0.9699 %).

Human Rights
Ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights on 20 June 1994.
- Judge to the European Court of Human Rights: Corneliu BÎRSAN.
- Applications allocated to a decision body (*) in 2008 : 5242
- Judgments in 2008: 199 of which 189 violations and 4 non-violations
