Committee of Ministers Chairmanship – Netherlands : November 2003 - May 2003

According to Piet-Hein Donner, the aim of integration is not homogeneity, but a sharing of citizenship

22.01.2004 - The Minister for Justice of the Netherlands, speaking at a conference on migration organised by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the French Delegation to the Assembly, said that unrestricted immigration might well overload social services, severely upset the labour market and gradually create divisions among the population. He advocated co-operation between the Council of Europe and the EU, saying that, in his view, it was vital to share our experience if we wished to develop integration policies with a view to creating an area of prosperity, security and justice for all who live in Europe.
