Conference on fundamental rights in a pluralist society

The Hague, 20-21 November: Hosted by the Netherlands during its chairmanship of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, the Conference focused on "Liberties and limitations for the benefit of diversity and social cohesion". Deputy Secretary General Maud de Boer-Buquicchio attended the Conference and gave a speech at the official dinner on 20 November

Welcoming the decision by the new Dutch Chairmanship to address some complex human rights issues, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, speaking in The Hague on 20 November, described the advantages offered by the Council of Europe when it comes to dealing with social problems such as violence, intolerance and integration. Her speech was made on the occasion of the conference on 'Fundamental Rights in a Pluralist Society, liberties and limitations for the benefit of diversity and social cohesion'.
