Nicolae Dudau says a 3rd Summit would formalise the Council of Europe’s pan-European role

Nicolae Dudau, Foreign Affairs Minister of Moldova and Chairman-in-Office of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, reviewing his first weeks in office for the parliamentarians, emphasised the 3rd Council of Europe Summit, which he expected would formalise the Organisation’s genuinely pan-European role.

Referring to the countries which are prospective Council of Europe members, he was pleased with the progress made by Monaco but regretted the closing-down of newspapers and the censorship in Belarus, not apt to help it draw closer to the Council of Europe, he said.

He advocated strengthening co-operation with the country’s civil society and the continuation of the “open door” policy on technical co-operation.
