Luxembourg and the Council of Europe
Date of accession
Luxembourg was one of the ten States which founded the Council of Europe on 5 May 1949.
Committee of Ministers
- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Overseas Commerce and Foreign Minister Lydie POLFER represents Luxembourg in the Committee of Ministers.
- Ambassador Gérard PHILIPPS has been the Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the Council of Europe since August 1998.
Parliamentary Assembly
Luxembourg is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 3 representatives and 3 substitutes.
- Marcel GLESENER (EPP/CD) is head of the delegation.
- Lydie ERR (SOC) is Chairperson of the Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men.
Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe
Luxembourg is represented in the Congress by a delegation of 3 representatives and 3 substitutes.

Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2002 is € 169,000,000. The contribution of Luxembourg is € 271,752 (i.e 0.1608 %).
Human Rights
Luxembourg ratified the European Convention on Human Rights on 3 September 1953. It recognised the right of individual petition on 28 April 1958.
- The judge for Luxembourg at the European Human Rights Court is Marc FISCHBACH.
